Sometimes I get confused. This sounds like a fairly obvious statement. We all get confused. This is not a life-changing revelation by any stretch of the word. A while back I heard a song by David Crowder called “Let Me Feel You Shine” that made me realize why my confusion is such a big deal. There is a specific line of the song that resides in the second verse that slapped me in the face:
What I need is for You to touch me. What I need is for You to be the thing that I need.
I spend so much time in my life trying to figure out what I “need” to make things better. What kind of gear do I “need” to make my playing better on Sunday mornings? What books do I “need” to read to be a better pastor? What kind of gear do I “need” to produce better videos? All of these things are important and can help me improve myself/how I do my job, but I started to realize that I don’t “need” any of these things to be better.
The only thing I need is God. If I truly live my life like I need God then He will help me accomplish all these things. Proverbs 3:5-6 pretty much sums it up:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)
If we take a step back and try to let God “shine” into our lives then He will show us the steps we need to take. We won’t have to stumble around in the dark trying to find things that we “need” to make ourselves better people.

Circumstances come and go and it is how I look at them that “dictates” my viewpoint. A decision made by me at some point in time acts as a value or aspect of character and becomes the lenses I see the happenings taking place through. Comparing and judging possibilities based on these “imperatives” and even “demands” splits me in two as surely a mirror image reverses left and right.
Rejoining myself and restoring balance to my mind by making a decision seems the solution yet rejoining my mind to the presence of GOD makes all the other possibilities seem unimportant. What we value is up to us . I suspect that’s only because GOD loves us in whatever we are doing.
